47 million is a very large number

Summer before last, the girls and I took Charlie on a river cruise to celebrate his birthday. We were a few months from going to get Jack. During the cruise we noticed a Chinese film crew wandering around and eventually they approached us and said they were very curious about our family. They explained that they were in our area to film some episodes for a travel show for a big Chinese TV station. They ended up filming a little interview with us. We got their card but never heard anything more and forgot about it.

Last fall a friend of ours was at a cultural event watching a show from China and there we were, in the middle of a section about rivers. We were only on it for a minute or so. She got us a copy of it and we enjoyed watching the whole six episode DVD. She got the email of the local contact who had helped the Chinese crew with the filming and I emailed the contact to thank her.

So then a couple of weeks ago I got an email from this woman, Jenny. She said that the producer of the travel show wanted to do a show about Americans adopting from China and they wanted to know if we might want to participate. So we met with them for dinner and it looks like they might be filming next month and we might be in this show also. They are going to get as many different local families as possible. The weird part is that apparently our little section of the show got a lot of reaction from the Chinese public - they said that they were still getting inquiries about us a year and a half after the show aired. And get this, this is the even weirder part, they estimated that 47 MILLION people saw the show. It's hard to get our minds around that number-that that many people have seen our family.

So I don't know if this new film will get off the ground (it's a documentary, not for a series, so they are fund-raising for the distribution costs and air time), but guess we've had our 15 minutes of fame.
