A Lovely Day

When I was growing up, we often visited a state park an hour or so from home. Although we have always called it Silver Creek Falls, the official name of the park is Silver Falls State Park and there are miles of trails and many beautiful waterfalls within its boundaries.

Yesterday was a gorgeous, sunny 60 degrees and we took a trip to the park for Family Day. The kids ran up and down the trails and across the little wooden bridges. They played in the playgrounds and threw small rocks and little sticks into the stream. At the entrance to the park you are given a map of the trails. The kids decided this was a secret treasure map meant for the eyes of children only. There were many huddled secret conferences under Bethany's coat to decide which fork in the trail to take. Charlie and I had no choice but to follow them until we got to the "treasure," which turned out to be our car.

Afterwards, with the children snoring in the back seats, we drove to meet my parents for dinner. All three kids adore Grandma and Grandpa, who treated them to an all you can eat restaurant for dinner. Of course, they put away an amazing amount of food-for once we didn't arrive at home to a chorus of "I'm hungry!!!"

These are pictures from this perfect day--and a wonderful song called "Family Outing" to go with them.

That's my idea of a very wonderful day!! We did the dinner with grand parents thing - but it's still a tad cold to be playing in a park...give us another month or so!
